MODERNISTIC ARCHITECTURE IN GDYNIA
In the interwar period, the new town was built on the spot of small village called Gdynia. Gdynia is among few cities in the world where the whole centre is built in one modernistic architecture style. The town was called ‘White City’ because of the colour of townhouses, which details are connected with images of ocean liners.
SOPOT RESORT ARCHITECTURE STYLE
Sopot has a specific architectural style connected with a summer resort construction – houses have characteristic wooden verandas and bay windows. It’s possible to find there some classical as well as Art Nouveau forms and even typical for alpine region styles. The most commonly represented are eclectic buildings following the fashion for the romantic historism at the beginning of 20th century. The eclecticism mixes used to be inspired by different past styles. In Sopot it is expressed in an accumulation of galleries, balconies, pinnacles, bay windows and other architecture details. Many of villas are built of timber framing, typical to Pomeranian architecture. An unique atmosphere of pre-war resort is discernible today.
