Cruise to Hel
HEL
It used to be a small Kashubian fishing village, today it is a popular resort.
Hel was the main base of Polish Navy and was attacked by German Kriegsmarine already on the first day of World War II – 1 september 1939. After the fall of Polish defence Hel Peninsula was intensively fortified by Germans with the peak of the works between 1944 -1945. In the period of the Cold War Hel once again served the navy because of its strategic location. Then the access to the town was heavily limited for the civilians.
