GDANSK CRANE
Gdansk Crane, built in 1444, was the biggest port crane in Europe. The facility was able to rise 4 tons shipment on 11 m height. Today there is an exhibition – part of the Central Maritime Museum – on merchant shipping history presenting interiors of granaries, wooden models of harbour quays and ships.
THE ROAD BRIDGE IN TCZEW
The road bridge in Tczew was built in 1851-1858. Its length was 837 m. It was the longest bridge in Europe and one of the most beautiful in the world at that time. It served as a railway bridge first. The American Society of Civil Engineers listed the Tczew bridge as an International Monument of the Structural Engineering in 2004. HYDROELECTRIC POWER PLANTS ON THE RADUNIA RIVER
The first hydroelectric power plant on the Radunia river was built in 1910. Nine hydroelectric power plants compose a unique complex called The Radunia Cascade which is considered to be interesting because of their scenic location among moraine hills and because of their remarkable architecture. The Radunia power plants are the oldest facilities of this type in Pomerania. They are still operating and producing hydroelectricity.
HYDROELECTRIC POWER PLANT IN BIELKOWO
During World War II the administration of the Free City of Danzig hid a part of the city archives and the St. George’s figure from the top of the roof of Gdansk St. George Confraternity Manor House in the water power plant in Bielkowo.
The canoeing rally passes the Radunia hydroelectric plants. On the 7 km long section there are 4 historical and still operating hydroelectric power plants dating back to the beginning of the 20th century. Our adventure starts in Straszyn and ends in Pruszcz Gdanski. It takes approximately two hours to cruise this section. The route is rich in picturesque scenery.
ZARNOWIEC PUMPED STORAGE POWER STATION
Zarnowiec Pumped Storage Power Station – it is the biggest hydroelectric power station in Poland. The power station was intended to be a load-balancer for Zarnowiec Nuclear Power Plant which was supposed to be built on the opposite side of the Zarnowiec Lake. After the catastrophe in Chernobyl the works on the nuclear power plant were halted.
